Intentional Disciple-Making with Bishop Efraim Tendero

Summary of the Meeting:

In the August First Monday Gathering, Bishop Efraim Tendero, global ambassador of the World Evangelical Alliance, urged pastoral leaders and pastor trainers to prioritize intentional disciple-making to fulfill the Great Commission. He provided three reasons: first, to complete the Great Commission (Matthew 28), where making disciples is Jesus’ sole command, yet over two-thirds of the world remains unevangelized. Second, to correct its neglect, as early Christians spread the gospel through equipped believers, not just clergy—a model lost post-Constantine when the church became worldly. Third, to cooperate with the Holy Spirit’s movement, aligning with global calls from the World Evangelical Alliance and Lausanne Movement. Through the Galilean Movement, Tendero called for one million churches to raise Christ-like harvest workers across all societal sectors. He warned that churches failing to disciple risk spiritual death, citing the fig tree parable (Mark 11:18-19) to emphasize “disciple or die,” stressing the urgency of equipping believers to multiply disciples.
