Meeting the need: raising new mentors of pastors

The April GPro Commission gathering centered on how to raise mentors of pastors—leaders who walk alongside others in spiritually formative, ministry-strengthening relationships.

Chris Davis, founder of globalLead, emphasized that mentoring must be rooted in relationship. He described how mentors are raised by first modeling vulnerability and intentionally investing time in others. Chris shared how structured cohorts, clear expectations, and long-term commitments help create the kind of environment where mentoring can flourish and multiply. He noted that consistency and humility—not charisma or credentials—make a strong mentor.

Ada Babajide, who works with MentorLink Nigeria, described her team’s approach to identifying and equipping mentors. They begin by inviting leaders into “Pass It On” seminars, which explore Christlike leadership and encourage participants to reflect deeply on their own transformation. From there, those with a heart for others are invited into deeper training. Ada stressed that effective mentoring begins with personal surrender and a willingness to walk slowly with people, modeling grace and integrity.

Together, Chris and Ada pointed toward a pathway for raising mentors that is both relational and reproducible—built on example, encouragement, and faithful presence.
