Meeting the need: Local Pastor Trainer Initiatives

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish) Français (French) Português (Portuguese (Brazil))

Summary of the Meeting:

The First Monday gathering, hosted by the GProCommission, focused on local pastor trainer initiatives toward the vision all pastoral leaders trained, every pastor a trainer.  Dr. Ramesh Richard emphasized the urgent need for 1,000 new pastoral leaders daily to support 50,000 new believers, advocating for scalable, high-quality training across formal theological education, nonformal pastor training , and informal personal mentoring sectors. The vision targets engaging 100,000 pastor trainers in 100 countries by 2030 to strengthen 1 million pastoral leaders, enhancing church health globally. Local Pastor Trainer Initiatives facilitator Germán Ricca and RREACH Executive Associate Robby Richard detailed the GProCommission’s role as facilitators, not leaders, supporting locally-led initiatives in countries like Mozambique, where a core group of 12 trainers is advancing a local initiative plan. GProCommission connects local leaders, assesses needs, and shares resources while respecting cultural contexts, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach. Misconceptions, such as GProCommission imposing models or controlling initiatives, were addressed, highlighting its collaborative, empowering role. A learning pathway with videos and discussion questions was introduced to guide those interested in local initiatives, with regional meetings encouraged for deeper collaboration.

Discussion Questions

Reflective Questions:

  1. How does the emphasis on local ownership in pastor trainer initiatives resonate with your understanding of sustainable ministry in your cultural context?
  2. What opportunities or challenges  might arise when balancing global collaboration with local leadership, as highlighted in the Mozambique pilot initiative ?

Action-Oriented Questions:

  1. What steps can you take to identify and connect pastor trainers from formal, nonformal, and informal sectors in your region to initiate a local pastor trainer initiative?
  2. How can you leverage the GProCommission’s learning pathway resources to develop a context-specific plan for training pastors in your community?
