1. Who You Are – In a few sentences, tell us about yourself and/or your ministry and what you do to serve pastors.
I am a child of the Most High God. I am the husband of one woman. Together, we have two teenage children. I live in South Africa and am a church pastor by background. I serve as the Director of Africa for Re-Forma. Re-Forma has set a global standard for non-formal, biblical ministry, which is endorsed by the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA). This standard is based on a set of ministry outcomes/competencies and leads to a Certificate (with the WEA logo), providing validation for training programs that meet the standard and recognition for students who achieve it.
2. Why Pastoral Leaders Matter – Why is training pastors a priority in your ministry or work?
This is, arguably, the greatest need facing the church at this time. With over 90% of pastors around the world lacking formal training, and with all kinds of terrible things taking place in the church, training pastors and leaders to shepherd the flock with Christlike character and to rightly handle the Word of truth is vital for the Bride of Christ to be made spotless and for the church to be the healthy, functioning body of the Lord on earth.
3. Developing Pastor Trainers – How are you helping raise up new trainers of pastors where you serve?
Our focus, as Re-Forma, is to equip trainers of pastors (who we refer to as ‘facilitators’) to train and assess pastors and church leaders to be biblically and practically competent for ministry. We encourage facilitators to get their successful students to start their own groups and train others. In this way, we develop pastor trainers. To date, we have more than 6,000 groups enrolled in over 90 countries around the world – by the grace of God.
4. Better Together – Why does collaboration across pastor-training sectors matter to your work?
Occasionally, we collaborate with formal institutions. However, Re-Forma’s focus is purely on the non-formal sector, as this is where the need for training the vast majority of pastors is greatest. We actually include mentoring as an important part of facilitating the program. So, in this way, we incorporate an element of informal training. As Re-Forma is not a training organisation or a curriculum provider, but rather an organisation that has set a global standard and framework for affirmation of ministry competence, everything we do in training involves collaboration. We are collaborating with the thousands of ministries and groups that enrol with us around the world.
5. Join the Work – How can others connect with you or get involved in what you’re doing?
By visiting our website (https://www.re-forma.global/), people can learn more about Re-Forma, enrol their group, or contact us if they like.
